24 September – On this Day 

Sigmund Freud renowned Austrian neurologist died on this day at the age of 83.

He is perhaps most famous for creating psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. When the Nazis took control of Germany, Freud’s books were among those they burned. Freud quipped: “What progress we are making. In the Middle Ages they would have burned me. Now, they are content with burning my books.”

Freud suffered from cancer of the jaw for a number of years leading to an inoperable condition and significant pain, at Freud’s request doctor Max Shur administered a lethal dose of Morphine leading to his death on the 24th of September 1939
