Archaeologists believe that they have identified one of the Norse ‘Thing’ sites on the island Bute.

The mound site has been known since the 1950’s but its purpose has until recently remained unclear.

recent research examining place-names on the island suggests that the site may have been used for the ‘Thing’ sometime between the late seventh century and the late ninth century.
