Ban Ki-moon UN Secretary-General issued a statement through his spokesperson regarding the systematic destruction and plunder of Syria’s cultural heritage. This was in direct response to the destruction of ancient sites in the country by IS. The statement said that he was appalled by reports of the destruction and he reiterated that the deliberate destruction of our common cultural heritage is a war crime and that the perpetrators must be prosecuted.
