It is believed that on this day in the year 100BC Julius Caesar was born.
Caesar is perhaps best known for the part he played in the demise of the Roman Republic. Caesar was a superb general, and responsible for many of Rome’s finest victories. Caesar was declared an enemy of Rome when he crossed the Rubicon with troops and marched towards his enemies starting a civil war with his previous compatriot Pompey. Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March in 44BC. Caesar’s adopted heir Octavian using the armt he inherited from Caesar became Rome’s first emperor.
