While construction workers poured concrete at the planned Amba Aradam metro stop in Rome, an archaeologist just a few meters away uncovered a small bracelet which led to the discovery of the barracks located 9 metres below street level.
Rossella Rea of the Culture Ministry said that the find is “exceptional, not only for its good state of conservation but because it is part of a neighborhood which already included four barracks,” the barracks which consists of a long hallway and 39 rooms was decorated with black and white mosaics and frescos on the walls.
The barracks also appear to have had a collected grave on site. Digs have so far revealed 13 adult skeletons and some jewelry. Officials hope that the discovery can be incorporated into the new Metro station due to op
