The SS Monte Carlo was sunk nearly 80 years ago with the ruins lying on a beach near Coronado Shores, California. The Monte Carlo hosted about 15,000 people a week at its height, guests could play blackjack, roulette or slots whilst watching “skinny women in tiny skirts danced on the tables” in international waters.
Nobody claimed ownership at the time of the ship’s sinking because of the illegal nature of the activities that took place on board and the wreck not occurring in international waters.
