The Western Australian government says that a site where thousands of Aboriginal artefacts were discovered in the 1970’s has no heritage value and therefore doesn’t hinder progress on the planned Roe 8 project. A department of Aboriginal Affairs spokesman said that more than 2000 were uncovered in 1973, however a 2004 site survey concluded that the site had been completely destroyed by landscaping and laying of grass. Greens MPs Lynn MacLaren and Rachel Siewert argue that significant artefacts might still remain on the site.
