Cree and Assiniboine warriors win the Battle of Cut Knife, their largest victory over Canadian forces during the North-West Rebellion.

A small force of Cree and Assiniboine warriors (disputed – between 50 to 250) were attacked by a flying column of mounted police, militia, and Canadian army regulars (totaling some 350+ men) near Battleford, Saskatchewan. The warriors defeated the Canadian forces; out flanked and pinned down for some six hours the flying column decided to retreat, there were losses on both sides but the decision of the warriors not to pursue the column probably saved the Canadians from a massacre.
