Germany, Italy and Japan sign an agreement promising that each will declare war on any third party which joins the war against one of the three.

It is stated that this agreement does not affect either Germany’s or Japan’s relations with the USSR. This treaty is known as the Tripartite Pact. All the signatories hope that the pact will deter the United States from joining the war in Europe or taking a more active line in the Far East.
